The Ford Street Project has been providing substance abuse treatment to the residents of Mendocino County since its inception in 1974.  It's treatment services for persons with alcohol and other drug problems include detoxification, residential recovery, outpatient groups and individual counseling, and a first-offense DUI Program.
DETOXIFICATION (drug and alcohol):

State-licensed and certified co-educational facility; Average detox stay is 3-5 days. Longer detoxification periods maybe needed depending upon the drug and the individual’s condition.  Detoxification services are a component of the RTP (Residential Treatment Program) located at 139 Ford Street, Ukiah. Facility type is Social Model, as opposed to Medical Model (i.e., no meds originate here, no doctors or nurses on staff, and no Medi-Cal support).  Medical clearance is required prior to admission. This program has been operating continuously since 1974.

Mendocino County Department of Public Health Alcohol and Other Drug Program fund one detox bed for use by clients referred by AODP.  Fee is paid by AODP.

RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT PROGRAM  (Printable Brochure)

The RTP (Residential Treatment Program), formerly called the Guest House is  located at 139 Ford Street, Ukiah, CA has been licensed as a 55-bed facility by the State Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Program since July 1999. The RTP represents the first residential program in Ukiah in 15 years and the first program ever which specifically targets indigent clients by offering a limited number of beds on an “ability to pay” sliding scale or payment plans.

Standard length of treatment is 90 days; however, shorter or longer periods may be arranged based upon a client’s need and approval by the treatment team.

The program involves a variety of addiction/recovery education classes and groups,  individual and group counseling, self-exploration through journal writing, work projects, nutritional stabilization, exercise, acupuncture, art therapy, guest speakers, life skills classes, dual diagnosis groups (for those persons who have a mental health illness as well as substance addiction) and outside AA and NA 12-step meetings.

All residential treatment clients are offered after-care support.  This group meets weekly and provides client’s relapse prevention assistance as well as the opportunity to stay connected with other alumni.  An annual “graduation” celebration is held for those clients who complete the residential and aftercare components of treatment.

Mendocino Alcohol and Other Drug Program contracts with Ford Street Project for residential treatment services for Prop. 36 clients and other non-prop. 36 clients. Treatment beds are paid for by AODP and access to these beds is through a referral from AODP.

In 2004 Ford Street Project was able offer the general public access to our residential treatment. Cost for self-pay treatment is $200 for the intake and $85 a day: or $2,750 for 30 day, $5,300 for 60 day or $7,850 for a 90-day treatment program.  Cost of meals and the 12 week aftercare support is included in the price of treatment. CRISIS RESPONSE SERVICES

This program, started in 1999, is funded by the Department of Mental Health to provide after-hours crisis response in the Fort Bragg/Mendocino coast area. Services begin at 5PM on weekdays and run until 8AM the following morning.  On weekends, this service is operating 24 hours a day.  Crisis workers utilize a call-in system to take crisis calls from residents in the community who are experiencing crises.  These problems may be resolved over the phone, or it may become necessary to interact with the client on a face-to-face basis for direct assistance or referral to treatment. Access and use of this service is through and at the discretion of the Department of Mental Health Crisis Unit.

Representative Payee Program

This program involves the provision of financial services to SSI recipients with psychiatric disabilities.  Ford Street currently provides these services to a number of clients through a contract with Department of Mental Health, and that activity is funded through a small federal mental health grant.  Ford Street also sub-contracts with private representative payees who work directly with clients.  This program has also proven effective in assisting clients to meet specific financial obligations.
