BUDDY ELLER CENTER

Our names are Fred and Elisabeth. We are the parents of 3 young children, Austin, Hailey and John. Due to the economy Fred has lost work. With no income we couldn't pay the bills. If not for the Buddy Eller Center our family would have no home. The other families here have been great, each helping one another the best they can. And the staff treats us as family. We would like to thank the Buddy Eller Center for all they have done.

The 64-bed Buddy Eller Center homeless shelter opened its doors on June 1, 2004.  The facility is open throughout the year and offers shelter to homeless families and individuals as well as showers to the general homeless population. . Other services include: mental health and drug/alcohol counseling, referral to Ford Street treatment, crisis intervention through the Department of Mental Health, health care and screening (including dental referrals), assistance in obtaining transitional and permanent housing, job training and employment assistance.  Recovery meetings, including dual diagnosis groups are on site as well.  Services are free to guests but stays are limited in length due to volume of need.  All guests are obliged to respect other residents and to comply with shelter rules and the terms of their service agreement. Funding for this facility is provided by The Mendocino Department of Social Service, FESG, United Way, Erikson Foundation and local donations.

The shelter was created with by funding from State of California Housing and Community Development EHAPCD program, Mendocino County and City of Ukiah Redevelopment as well as fundraising efforts and local donations. Furnishings purchased with supported from the Erikson Foundation.
